The Canon 18-200 3.5-5.6 IS is better, but they both arn't that good for light IMO

Cannon is better for light. Both are not great for light though. I would say buy the Tamron if you are going to but one. The Cannon is too much for what it actually is. You can get better for a little more.

i have the canon EF-S 18-200mm myself and i must say i agree with @.spider. his link, altough you should still be able to take decent pictures with it(all of mine are taken with that lens)

the lack of IS on the tamron will make it nearly impossible to handle at 200mm or at any length with a shutter time of longer then 0.3sec, tried it myself with the canon version and IS turned off.

like said before, you can take pretty decent pictures with it, altough if you want to use them in a moeny earning way it will be quite hard to achieve, because of chromatic abdoration, disortion and/or sometimes a unrealistic feel to pictures when it comes to colours.

on the Tamron hand however, it's cheaper, which personally makes me doubt the quality of glass or the materials which are used to make the lens.

The confusing part for me is that the tamron is a dedicated APS-C lens, but uses the canon FF mount( EF) where the canon uses the EF-S mount.

the only real positive thing i can truelly think off are that the tamron is cheaper and has a included sunhood, both both of these things are negotiable.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.
