So I have decided to finally buy a gaming rig even though I have no experience in system building however have watched loads of videos therefore willing to give it a go.

Below are the specifications that I have ordered apart from the gpu as I will be ordering that later in the week once I have sufficient funds.

Computer case: Corsair carbide series 200r
CPU: Intel core i5 4690K
CPU heatsink: Coolermaster hyper 212 evo
Memory: Hyperx black 16gb ddr3 1600mhz
Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 twin Frozr Msi 4gb
Motherboard: Gigabyte z97P-D3
Sound: Going to be using the onboard one
Networking: Wireless card 300 mbps PCIE
Power supply: evga supernova 650w g1 modular
Case fans: Standard
Hard drive: Seagate 1TB SSHD (Fusion)
Optical Drive: Samsung 24x DVD/CD/re-writer

I am going to be using the machine for general work as well as gaming. The gaming is going to be done currently on a 1080P PLS monitor, may upgrade down the line to 1440p.

So what does the community think? Is it value for money especially as it is my first gaming rig. I have no experience with overclocking but will definitely look into doing it.

The parts will be arriving within 2 days.

In my option SSHD is piece of crap. Get HHD and later SSD
GTX 960 and 1440p not going to work well.
If you will be able to upgrade GPU in couple years, 960 should be fine for now. If you won'tbe able to - i5 4460 and 970 will be better choice.

I don't really like the combinations although i am not sure of you budget which would in turn, change or not change my mind about how i feel about the proposed build. The SSHD is really not worth the price to me and while it is faster then a regular HDD it is not really eye popping faster. The 960 is really not a good choice to me with the 970 being the cost it is.

I would sacrifice a 1440p monitor for a 1080p 1ms monitor with a 970 over a 960.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

I have checked gpuboss, seems both have their ups and downs

I thought the performance of an SSHD isn't as bad as I had helped a relative replace their ssd with a SSHD and the boot times were not much of significance, I just thought I could cut corners and save on buying two storage drives, however I do plan to add a ssd down the line specifically for the boot drive. In terms of the graphics card, I plan to use it for a good couple years and then will replace with any new capable one.

Switch the 960 for a 280x... The 960 isn't even that good, it needs more Vram for higher resolution and for future games. Also the 280x is on sale at newegg right now.

For me sshd is WAY faster than straight hardrive so I heartly recommend it and go with 280 unless playing games at less than 1080p other wise with your cpu being more expensive than your gpu I would say spend more on gpu say a 970 because as said above you can't play with 960 on 1440p so go for the extra cash there too

<p>Wish I could have this already!! : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qTLRjX

After careful consideration, I have now opted for the 970 twin Frozr Msi 4gb
