Go to solution Solved by Extingquish,

Yep, you can just link it in the HTML

So i just started to make websites and am now re creating them. Should i hadcode the css or just use the tools in dreamweaver?

Maybe try both? Give them a shot and see which you like best! The challange of code or the smooth and easyness of dreamweaver

In my opinion, go for coding yourself. I really don't like DreamWeaver and you will learn much more from coding yourself.

Coding it yourself will be the best thing you can do, the more you do it the better you will be at it.

I would code it myself. I use aptana, its a really good piece of software for site development and it's free. Great for people starting out especially for php.

you need to link  the stylesheet in the head part of your html file, like this:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="cssfile.css">

Also, for basic css styles and to make it easy to edit try using bootstrap, it also has all of the container classes to make your website responsive and resize to the frame size (might be good to learn how it works before relying on bootstrap though). :)

css is a complement to html. its to help modify and position things on the web page.. it goes in the same script.

css is put in a diff spot.. right before the <body></body>

have a look at this :

<html><head><title> Zhang Jike </title><style>body {	margin:0;	padding:0;	font-size:12px;	font-family:arial;}h1{	border:4px solid #001;	display:inline;	background-color:#002;	margin:0;	padding:7px;	font-size:1.3em;	width:100pc;	height:50px;}</style></head><body background="BG.jpg" link="#ffffff">	<font color="#ffffff">	<center><h1> Zhang Jike Joueur de "Ping-Pong" professionnel.</h1></font></center>	<center><img src="img1.jpg" border="4" height="300" width="450"></center>	<center><a href="menub.htm"font size="40">Entrez</a></center></body></html>

in h1{

}

you see the css code to modify the actual  <h1></h1>  zone

 It doesn't have to, you can link to an external file which is better if you have a lot of classes then you can use class="namesOfClasses" in the div for example. However, you can use the <style> tags to insert in-line styles.

Your way is great for learners but when dealing with thousands of lines of css like with bootstrap (6000 lines) it would become too much. Also, if you have multiple pages using the same css styles if you want to change a style for all the pages you have to change every page but with an external file you only have to edit the one file.

Use Dreamweaver if you have it, but use the code view for most of the actual work. It is everything a text editor is plus much more. Whether or not it's a crutch is up to you.
