I am Brand new to building a PC. As in my parts are in the mail for my very first build.

I have gone a little overboard which is fine but now im stuck on what monitor to buy.

Should i get a 144hz monitor or an IPS panel monitor?

I will be gaming on this computer and my pc settings will allow for more than 60fps.

But the colors on the IPS panel intrigue me is it a noticeable difference?

If you are doing FPS games, 144hz. If not 60hz IPS.

Is there not a 120+Hz IPS monitor?

Personally, I'll stick with ~60Hz and an IPS panel. I sit in very obscure angles, and I can clearly tell the difference between my TN and IPS displays.

If you are into twitch shooters like Counter Strike, get the 144hz. Otherwise, a quality IPS will do fine.

For GAMING, 144hz, always. This shouldn't even be a question. 60hz should never be considered, "IPS has better colors" you won't even notice this while gaming.

The reason I think this is because 2 years ago I've done a blind test with about 37 people. I put a benq 144hz(w/e the model number was) and a ASUS PA23(forgot the model number) behind cardboard cut outs.

There was 2 tests, "is this 144hz or 60hz" and "is this TN or IPS" the only rule was that they can't move around, they need to stay seated.

CS:GO and league of legends was used for testing.

The options were Monitor A, Monitor B, or I can't tell.

out of those 37 people, 35 of them were able to tell which one was 144hz, but for the IPS test, 5 people answered correctly, and the rest of them answered wrong, or "I can't tell"

So no matter how many times people say "IPS has better colors, you'll get a more immersive experience" I'm going to say no, 144hz will provide you a more immersive experience, the color difference isn't noticeable when gaming.

If you do a lot of color work aside from gaming, I'd go for the IPS. But gaming and fast-paced shooters definitely benefit more from the 144Hz

Signature unda construction... in the meantime. Tell me more about yourself. I'm sure you've got an interesting story.

There is a huge difference between IPS and TN displays color wise for gaming. You have to be blind to miss it or have no idea of what proper colors are. That being said for strictly FPS gamers high refresh rates are still the way to go. For general use and moderate gaming ISP is nicer.

Proper colors? Do you somehow think browns appear blue or something on TN? IPS has a wider range of colors, sure, you're not going to notice it in gaming. Or what, do you look at the game screen and go "oh, look at the 23,567th shade of brown compared to the 67,849th shade of brown"

Why not both?

What's the budget?

If I had to decide: Are you more the competetive type and play fast-paced shooters? Then 144 Hz. Or is a beautiful "sight-seeing" experience in games more important to you? Then IPS.

(Yes, it is a noticable difference, especially when you also consider the better viewing angles of IPS. But in the middle of a firefight in a shooter, you will probably not notice it anymore, because your attention will be with the action, not the scenery...)

Heres the list of IPSs which are higher than 60hz (all, but the last 1 are already preorderable):

LG 29um67 - 29inch, IPS, 2560x1080, 75hz, freesync
LG 34um67 - 34inch, IPS, 2560x1080, 75hz, freesync
Acer XB270HU (GSYNC, 27", 144Hz, 1440p, IPS)

Acer Predator XR341CK (GSYNC, 34" Ultrawide, 144Hz, 3440x1440, IPS)
ASUS MG279Q (Adaptive Sync -unbranded FreeSync-, 27", 120Hz, 1440p, IPS

IMO - the 21:9`s are the the only ones that should be considered if you really want to fall in love with gaming.

If you can hit frame rates of over 100 then the 144Hz imo.

The smoothness compared to 60Hz is unreal :DD

If there wasn't a noticeable difference when gaming why do you think most people recommend IPS screens unless you can maintain 100+ fps? Your "scientific" test with under 40 people seems to be the opposite of what everyone including professional reviewers say.

VA is also a good option. it has less ghosting than IPS and better response times. They also have better blacks. the colors aren't as good as IPS but better than TN. IMHO the difference between IPS and TN is night and day. ( i use a TN daily). At work i use a iMac with a IPS screen every day and its so much better looking than my TN at home.

If you want IPS get the XB270HU, of course if you do other stuff like color grading, video I'd always get a dedicated high grade IPS display.

For gaming XB270HU is good!  It's better than the ROG Swift and it's IPS! Of course that may change when Asus releases the ROG 4K IPS display.

For most people, because Linus said he likes IPS. Everyone jumped the IPS bandwagon. This can be said for alot of things. If Linus says he likes something, most of this community will jump onto it without a second thought.
