Bigger size = more durable, more resistant against abuses. In principal, bigger size also allow more current to pass through it, but in headphones case, it make no difference, because headphones don't require big amount of current flow anyway. 

Just a larger connector that's all, absolutely no sound benefit.

It's not the size that matters, it's what you do with it that counts.

It's only the guys with the small jacks that say that
