Hey everyone,

I'm getting ready to build a new PC, in this case, one capable of 4K gaming, and being able to upgrade for the future. I also plan to dabble in overclocking sometime down the line.

This is my first solo PC build, so I'm trying to get as much input as possible. My current rig was done with the help of a friend who is a computer engineer, but I sadly dont have contact with him anymore.

I mainly want to know if I'm making good choices for the things I want to do (mentioned above), and that all the parts will work optimally together. I'm not particualrly brand loyal, my choices are more based on what I have in my current system which has served me well for many years with little complications, if any at all. My concern is reliability. I want things to last.

Here are the items I have picked out so far, all selected from newegg for the sake of simplicity, but I'm willing to shop around to lower the cost.

Keep in mind, I have a intel SSD that I bought a while back that was intended for my current rig, but never got installed. It's a http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-internal-hard-drive-ssdsc2bw240a4k5

Let me know if there is any room for improvment or changes, I'd like to avoid going over $4000 if at all possible. astetics arent important to me, just quality and performance.

I greatly appreciate the help! :D

AESTHETICS ARE ALWAYS IMPORTANT.

Give me 20 minutes to make some small improvements.

I would recommend 2 GTX 970s just for the better value or 2x R9 290Xs. Velociraptors are not worth it these days. Way too loud. SSDs are so much faster and are pretty cheap.

Getting the RVE is just overkill dude. Features to performance ratio is too low. Any X99 board will do these days.

the i7-5930k is a waste of money unless you are using more than 28 pci lanes, i7-5820k is the same but with 12 pci lanes less,

edit: throw away the velociraptor, and get the WD Black and the samsung 850 pro 250 or 500 gb :)

What games are you looking to run at 4K and at what quality? Because it might be that you're able to either get a comparatively cheap GPU setup (970s or 980s) for now and do a big upgrade later or (if you play more demanding games) pick up one Titan X and get a second one down the line, using the saved money on other areas for reliability or aesthetics. Games like League or TF2 or CS will happily run at 4K on an R9 280x or similar (I can't remember the card Linus used in his 4K build for League) and 2011-13 era games will manage well without SLI Titan Xs.

Stuff like BF4 and Witcher 3 (when it's out) will need the extra horsepower though. But I'd definitely recommend either a 4790K + solid Z97 mobo OR 5820K and solid X99 mobo depending on how much you want to spend and how much you care about the new platform. From there it's balancing Cost/performance/aesthetics/quality/upgradeabilty of other parts.

Yup, it's a perfect way to get less performance while paying more money.
