Buying Antivirus software is a big nono. Just get free Malware Bytes and use Security Essentials if you want which works in the background on Windows 8.1

Don't buy antivirus. Avast is what I'd recommend. Also get CCleaner, too.

Definitely get your self a anti virus program, there is a few out there that are free and work fairly good..Like the ones that where mentioned above here is the links to them..

Microsoft Security Essentials

Malware bytes

My self I prefer paying for better Anti Virus like these 2 below I use on all my computers, now I have nothing against the free ones above as I have used them both and they work great but figured I just go with the paid version, I still used Malwarebytes but I have the paid version..

Webroot SecureAnywhere

Emsisoft

Use the built in Windows defender in Windows 8.1, but add a free copy of Malwarebytes and use the browser add on Web Of Trust
