Which CPU (Help)

Go to solution Solved by GodSpoon,

If its mostly for those things, A Xeon E3-1231v3 would smash other options for the same price

I want to buy a new cpu but I don't know what exactly I need

I want to mainly use it for multimedia, video/photo editing etc.. if you could help me out that would be great, Because I don't want to spend too much money

Thanks.

How much is 'not too much money' and is that including a motherboard?

And also, do you have a AMD/Intel preference (or will you upgrade sooner or later and don't want to change motherboard)?

Absolutely :)

Not if you want to overclock for high single core peformace  ;)

Because single core "performace"will totally make a difference when your rendering a 4k video or watching the powerpuff girls ;)

This. So much this. i7 4770 for i5 price. i7 to i5 Difference being having hyperthreading which helps in what you listed. Video editing and what not.

Also, if you can afford, i7 5820k would also be a good option. A good value chip when you consider the cost per core.

True but for gaming wich i hope this guy is planning to do also :o

The xeon will still be fine for gaming, it will be very close to as good as the 4690k in low threaded games and a bit better in highly threaded games.

Not completely, with an i7 (besides the non-k versions) you can overclock to get better performance the a xeon, but not a ton better.

Not very close if you start pushing that i5 in terms of overclocking ;)
