Laptop for Programming Class?

h7779

This fall I will be taking my first programming class (Java) my major is computer system engineering, and I would like to know do I really need a laptop? I saw a post on Hot Deal about a Dell XPS 13 for $800. Had a talk with my mom and she said wait till class has started to get the latest one available at that time. However, this sell is too good to let it pass by. I don't know, what are your guys recommendation?

Thank you for your time.

new laptop versions are released every year...

unless your programming class is next year, there wont be a newer version by the time you start

IMO get it asap

Yeah I was thinking the same thing too. My mom was just worried that later on in my programming class newer software will be harder to run.

Thanks for your input.

lol no that laptop will be good for at least 5 years

and unless youre programming 3d games, it will be extremely easy for a laptop to run

haha, I see. Might look up other laptop to see if I can get a better deal. In terms of spec will an i3 do it? Or at least an i5?

An i3 would likely be sufficient for programming but I would suggest getting an i5 if you could just for longevity :)

My Current Build:

depends what kind of programming youre doing

if this is one of your first few years then it should be fine

if youre doing 3d games or massive algorithm program calculations then you would be better off with an i5
