GTX980 Strix temperatures

Go to solution Solved by Battery95,

Fix'd

Wiped the drivers and installed new ones, works like a charm. Thanks for everyone though :)

Just bought my Strix 980 today and started benchmarking it.

Is it normal that the temps and fan speeds are at that level while playing bf4? It seems weird that it ramps the GPU to full throttle and temps are around 70-80C while playing this or Far Cry 4 (http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/15/04/09/8b4.png)

I Noticed that the heatsink is kind of "sagging" and pressing it towards the core makes it move about 2mm upwards so is it possible that its not making good enough contact with the core.

Would also like to see other 980 owners scores from different benchmarks.

Case is Fractal define R4, 2 fans blowing in from front, one sucking out on top and one sucking out at back. Cpu heatsink is Noctua NH-D14(oriented to suck from front), no OC on CPU (4790K). Ambient temperature is about 20-25C.

Create a custom fan curve and report back with temperatures.

It's throttling from temperatues (VoP on Vrel) you need a custom bios to fix it without it sounding like a jet

PEWDIEPIE DONT CROSS THAT BRIDGE

Looks like you lost the lottery... or it's just the Strix card being bad.

I get 69C at 1500.

Intel 4790 K - R9 295X2 - Gigabyte Z97-SLI - Corsair Vengeance Pro Black 1866 CAL9 - Corsair HX 1000 -Samsung 850 EVO SSD - Samsung HDD - H100I - Corsair C70 - G400 Logitech - Asus VS247H - WASD custom mechanical and QCKPAD!

Staples of LTT: Getting an 4690 K will resurrect your lost family members, AMD = More heat thus AMD = Satan.

I have a very similar setup to you, and even with the stock fan curve im not even close to those temps, here is my setup.

4790k @ 4.7ghz @ 1.28 volts /w NH-D15 max temps 60c under load

Asus Strix 980 @ 1501 / 8360 max temps with custom fan curve 60c

I score 13,800 on firestrike 1080
