I currently have 8gb ram, what'll happen if my computer needs more than 8gb while I play a game for example?

it will cap at 8GB and your game/programs/OS will lag

windows might also give you a low memory warning and tell you to close some programs

You'll get macro-stutter, probably. Your computer won't crash and die.

You can always open up task manager, play a game, and alt+tab out to check memory usage.

Unless you're capping 8GB on a daily basis, then i wouldn't worry about it.

It will start writing to your harddrive when it needs more space. This is called swapping or paging for Windows. Thing will get noticeably slow when you have to start swapping large amounts of data.

You see it in lag and maybe crashing. I have had it while still with 4Gb.
