Project Mewtwo : White/Purple X99 Watercooled Powerhouse

sazyario

To preface this build, it'll be an ongoing project through summer.

This will be replacing my current Z77 i5 Build. I can't decide if I'm passing this to replace my wife's Z97 G3258 build or to sell to recoup my costs.

Purpose:

0) Look Beautiful

1) Encode my massive DVD/BluRay Library for Plex

2) Game

Planned Hardware

Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White + 2M LED Strip (Purple)

Core i7 5820k

MSI X99s SLI Plus

4GBx4 DDR4-2400

Custom Watercooling Loop

Hardware to Be Determined

GPU

GSync/FreeSync Monitor

Additional Watercooling

Additional HDDs for Plex (RAID5)

Hardware to be repurposed

Corsair RM750

ASUS BW-12B1ST

Samsung 840 EVO 250GB (OS & Key Applications)

WD Green 4TB (Plex)

WB Black 2TB (Steam, Origin, UPlay)

EK-Supremacy EVO CPU Water Block White Edition - Nickel/Acetal

Alphacool NexXxos UT60 420mm - White Special Edition

LF Reaction 250mm Cylinder Reservoir

2x Cougar CFV14HB

Undecided Fittings

PrimoChill Advanced LRT Tubing

---------------------------------------------------

Hardware Purchased Thus Far

Core i7 5820k $300 (Microcenter)

MSI X99s SLI Plus $110 (Microcenter)

Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White $160 (NewEgg)

Phanteks 2M LED Strip $25 (NewEgg)

HyperX Predator 4GBx4 DDR4-2400 $210 (NewEgg)

2x Cougar CF-V14HB $36 (NewEgg)

Status Update 4/4/2015

The project begins. A trip to MicroCenter begins the insanity that will drain my bank account... Hopefully the wife doesn't notice.... I pickup the 5820k and the MSI motherboard. I have high hopes. If I weren't going crazy on this build I could make a somewhat "budget" X99 build. But I'm throwing that out the window.

Status Update 4/5/2015

I purchase the case, ram and some fans from newegg. I could start building by this upcoming weekend. I have my performance-pcs cart filled at the moment. I'm finding great difficult in purchasing my watercooling gear as the cost/performance is not there. But, I want this build to look beautiful. I'm going to sleep on it before I purchase the gear. I may make some changes in parts. I'm mixing many vendor's with my watercooling loop. EK/Alpha/Primo/XSPC ... Im not sure how this will work. I have decided on a grey looking compression fitting from XSPC.

Status Update 4/6

Purchased all of my Watercooling gear. Jesus that was expensive....

Status Update 4/10

The build has started. Getting the 420mm rad up top was a pain in the ass. The 60mm thickness was a problem. I had to do a partial disassembly of the case. I'm happy Phanteks actually uses screws!!! Although I'm bummed that the top grill release prevents me from using my 140mm fans on top. I had to hack away at the fan ring on my cougar fan.

Build Log!!!

Here are the components I'll be using in addition to gear from my old rig. This build is already starting to feel weird without a new GPU.

Here is my z77 build I'm retiring

Here are the components I'm reusing from the old build, gutted and sitting pretty.

Here is the new rad next to the h100i cooling my old 3570k. I hope to cool both my cpu & future gpu on this thing. I have found out that I cannot mount any more radiators in my case with the way I'm building.

The hack job I did on my cougar fan to get the top grill to go back in place.

Where I'm stopping tonight. I'm too tired to go out and drill holes.

I don't think the UV Tubing will work great with my choice of using Phanteks' LED Strip that plugs I to the case's existing LED Controller.

The tubing may work nonetheless even without using a UV Kit.

Trying to get a mental picture is difficult.

I'm considering a purple colour scheme for my next upgrade, looking forward to seeing it used here!  :D

110 dollars for that motherboard?

HOLY BALLS that's an amazing price.

Open box i assume? Because the lowest at my microcenter is 170 for an open box one

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

It was $167 open box

I talked them into giving me the $40 off for buying a cpu (their combo price is only good on "new")

Then at the register I was given a $20 MIR

$167

-40

-20

=$107+tax

I'm happy. It let me get better ram modules then I was planning on initially.

Damn, that's pretty incredible.

I just got back from a microcenter, no exciting purchases though :P

Very, very, very expensive. Cheapest I could get with basic compression fittings and tubing only where needed the components themselves came out to be about 750 dollars.

I spent 500 and I still need to do a gpu block and 2nd rad when and releases their next series of gpus.

(Note, I don't know if I'm going to green or red until I see performance reviews)

The build has started!!! I'll be uploading pics soon to show my progress. I'm stopped at the moment. I need to drill mounting holes into the psu shroud to mount the res horizontally. I decided to use a Xspc d5 photon res/pump combo in stead of the LF reaction res.
