Totally not another which 970 thread >.>

Go to solution Solved by KWelz,

EVGA SSC.   I am running 2.  I had some questions and called them up at about midnight on a Saturday.   I figured I would leave a message and hear back later that week.

Nope.  Got a person who was able to answer my questions.   In addition they don't void your warranty for installing a water block, etc.

hey, don't mean to start another one of these but....

my choice is coming down to two similar cards. the g1 gaming and the evga SSC. both are clocked similarly. i like the look of the evga, but the g1 comes with a backplate and lights up on the side (yes i'm one of those that likes that kind of thing) but overall i don't like the look of the card. any suggestions? which one would be better for overclocking, the SSC advertises 33% more board power which i assume means they increased the power ceiling?

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

if i go with amd it would be the beastly r7 250e

that thing is as good as gaming gets ;)

also yeah, evga is a preferred brand of mine, but the g1 has a lot of good buzz about it too so kinda on the fence, as i typically get around upgrade time lol

If you read my post, after I said buy a 290x, I said "on a more serious note". Does that not tell you I am joking? :D

i'm not too worried about noise and i've heard that the evga coolers are acceptable in terms of noise. overclocking is more of a minor concern to be honest, out of the box the card would shred 1080p anyway. but good to know the G1 is a good overclocker.

How is gygabyte's warranty and service? is it notably worse than evga or is it decent?

and for the record, full dx 12 support and significantly lower tdp is the only reasons why i stopped considering amd. physx and shadow play are just added bonuses really.

gigabytes service is as good as most other tech companies

its just that EVGA stands out from the rest cause its great

honestly I would get the cheaper one, or the one that looks best in your system

some people prefer the looks or colours of one cooler better than the other

both are great cards, so you cant go wrong either way :)

true. and i am the type to factor looks into decisions. i do like the look of the evga card better, but just wish that the logo on the side lit up like on their 980s. i'm not a big fan (hehe) of the windforce cooler look for the most part, but comes with the back plate and... well... i'll just admit that i like shiny/glowy things lol. what has me on the fence about these is the fact that i like them both, and they are both similarly priced and spec'd.

this is what i hate about upgrade time. so much easier being on the other side of the discussion helping people come to decisions lol.

this is a hard one. i got the gigabyte one, have been very happy with it so far, overclocks on the g1 are great (normally) evga does have some of the best customer support though.  like evga support is no joke.  if you plan on staying air cooling go with the g1, if might get a water block of something else where you need a ref pcb, get the evga.

EVGA, I have a launch day 970 and it serves me very well.

Am I the only one around here who really doesn't like pcpartpicker?
I also like Ubisoft and Origin/EA
Guess I'm just odd that way.

Get this EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB FTW+ ACX 2.0+ Video Card

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-04gp43978kr

that is a bit more than i want to spend at the moment, i'm in canada and right now the dollar sucks. i'd be looking at 480 vs 440 for the SSC.

that's some compelling reasons right there. not so much interested in waterblocks but if i recall correctly they don't void the warranty for replacing the TMI either.

the SSC is looking better from that stand point for sure, and customer service is always a plus. i was hoping to get some led lighting on my graphics card since i'm planning on getting the ballistic tactical ram so it would be nice to have more than just one part with lighting. but ah well.

looks like the SSC it is. thanks all for your replies :)
