Hello all,  I am a complete newbie here and not much of a techie.  I've replaced some RAM and a CPU or two back in the 90s but that is about it.  I am here looking for any recommendations for rugged and or durable technology.  I work as teacher internationally and I love to travel, over ten countries and counting.  I found many of the linus tech tips videos highly informative and I'm hoping maybe the community here will have some recommendations for more durable technology.  I had a major scare with my toshiba laptop (it would prob be dead if I hadn't swapped out the HD for an SSD before I got here) here in Mongolia, and I'd like to find some more durable stuff. Thank you for your time guys.

Me- It has come to my attention that it is impossible to buy liver in Mongolia because it is bad, but it is perfectly ok to buy salted sheep heads

logitech mice are made of bricks.

the old dell D600 laptop line was made of indestructium

mechanical KBs are more expensive, but last forever, or can be fixed.

no RAM, MB, GPU or CPU is really that super durable in terms of physical properties.

hp pavilions are crap.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Nokia (before the Lumia and before Foxconn, although some of their lumias were pretty sturdy)
Lenovo
Toshiba

Casio

Dell (NOT ALIENWARE)

Apple, to a certain extent. You should see what I did to my iPod. I was amazed that it's still alive.

Nintendo's Wii Remotes. Just sayin'.

Lenovo 11e laptops-rugged series, Panasonic tough books, lacie rugged harddrives, adata dashdrive durable hard drives

Like I've posted on your other topic there is also dell has a rugged line, GETAC, General Dynamics, I believe those 3 are also cheaper then Panasonic toughbooks, tho dell is not as rugged, GETAC is nice but I don't think they would be good for gaming if that's ever in your interest

Sorry for the double posting, and I'm not really into gaming but I do have steam for the occasional Civ V game, and I wouldn't mind getting back into it.  However I'm not a FPS fan, i grew up planing nintendo platformers, adventure games, and RPGs.

Sweet, you can get something like that.  I just have a somewhat beat up over the shoulder case for transporting my laptop, and other stuff to and from work.  I will be looking into those.

if you need a camera i would get something like a lumix dmc-ft6, my brother has taken one around the world on his ski trip

Its all about those volumetric clouds

I did look at the Panasonic tough book but it was out of my price range and what I needed.  I actually have an olympus stylus tough, and upgraded to a canon tg-3 they are great because I can take them scuba diving (the canon goes to 15m) for some great shots.  I wanted one that could go a little deeper without an external case but the incheon airport was a little limited at the time.  The only camera trouble I had was with the memory cards.  I don' t think it liked the super cold temps here in mongolia.  I might get a DSRL in the future if and when my camera skills improve.  I loved my Casio G'zone cellphone, but it wont work here in mongolia so im stuck with some crappy android thing.  Oh you wouldnt happen to know why flash drives go bad.  I had to reformat it twice since coming here.
