Sweet, I read that they pointed the Hubble in the most uninteresting patch of sky they could find and carried out a 5-6 month exposure (or something like that) and that was the result, pretty damn impressive.

So you know of VY Canis Majoris, have you also heard of NML Cygni which is the largest known star right now with an approximate radious of around 2.295 billion km or 1,650 times that of the sun, also if NML Cygni was placed were our sun is, the surface of the star would most likely stretch beyond the orbit of Jupiter and half way to Saturn.

VY Canis Majoris holds #1 place sorta as we believe it's not as big as it used to be.  However the other star you mentioned should extend past Saturn as Betelgeuse extends past Jupiter and is a few times smaller than VY Canis Majoris even.

Not sure how accurate wikipedia is but according to that, VY CMa holds #7 with NML Cygni holding the #1 spot

That is a cool video but I'm not sure how old it is, apparently there are 6 stars larger than Canis Majoris

I love the way they called it Canis Majoris,  the big Dog star.
