4k build Help

Go to solution Solved by xnoobftw,

@techguru I have a micro itx board and I want to upgrade to an atx board with 2 PCIex16 slots for future upgrades.  My memory def needs a boost.  I have 16 GB of 1066 and want to up it to 16GB of 1600.  Also, you said the $999 GTX Ti was a waste, so what would you recommend?  I'm not keen on spending that kind of money when I won't be playing FPS games at all.

Your ram is fine. Reuse it. As for motherboard i suggest upgrading to one that allows SLI for future SLI of the titan X

Titan X really is the way to go if you want a long lasting beast of a gaming rig

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($95.99 @ Amazon)

I gotten you a 850 watts PSU (the best one too) for future SLI and OCing potential of both titan X
Your Ram really IS fine.
(IMO the build i gave you cannot be beaten)

Hi everyone,

I have two Dell 4k IPS monitors and want to build a rig to utilize them.  The thing is I don't have 5 billion doallras to spend on this rig.  My budget is $1500 I can stretch it to $1700 if need be.  I don't play FPS games at all but I do play MMOs like WoW.  My main games are Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, Path of Exile, Tomb Raider, Assasin's Creed, and plenty of RPGs.  I know with $1500 I can't get the ultimate best of the best but I would like to get as close as possible.

If you can provide me with a build that would get me 4k gaming at my budget please link me the build specs.  Thank you in advance.

Lots of rpgs require a lot of resources. Witcher 3 is an RPG, Assassin's Creed is an RPG, etc.

It seems that the GTX Titan is the go to GPU for what I need.  I just hurts to sell the bulk of the build on a GPU but if that is what needs to be done then that is what it will be.  When is the AMD 3X series supposed to drop?   Also, will a 600W PSU be enough?  I've been reading reviews and it seems some say you need 1000W.  Is that a lie?

I also have another question.  I have a Intel Core i7 - 2600k Sandy Bridge processor.  Is there a way to reuse this processor or do I need to upgrade?  I went looking for 1155 boards but I was very confused by what out there.  If I need to rebuild a new rig completely and that is my only choice then so be it.  If I can reuse this CPU then that would be even better.  What do you guys thinks?  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

if its an itx board..then yea maybe a change there

in theory your ram is fine..tho if you really wanna do 4k gaming...then yea that could use a boost as well

as for the card..I would probably wait for a amd 390...it should be the first single chip card that should give you 4k gaming on 98% of games at 40+fps

2x970's is another option as well..but you will get some games not working properly with the sli....
