Depends on the binning. I'd get a Dark Rock Pro 3, R1 Ultimate or NH-D15.

Not any G3258 is going to get 5GHz, you're going to have to hope you get one that will.

The NHD-14/15 is overkill. My Hyper T4 keeps my G3258 with a 4.5ghz 1.3v OC at a 35 degree idle and a 70 degree load temperature. Acoustics are not bad either.

That's cooler then my 4770k with an h100i...

at stock speeds...

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Possible? Yes. Likely? Hell no. For the cooler, I have a cooler master hyper t4 that works well with my g3258 at 4.5ghz at 1.3v.

I was planning to get the Cooler Master Hyper T4 as well, but may get the Hyper 212X instead, apparently better cooling performance

Ok, well I saw Linus reach 4.7GHz, even though that was on a liquid cooler, and I've heard 4.4GHz is possible even on the stock cooler.

Thanks for the extremely speedy replies, btw, I've never got that on a forum before :D

I'd rather use an i3 + stock cooler than a pentium OC + expensive cooler

The G3258 runs cooler than a 4770k. Also, your room temperature might be higher, mine is 20 degrees Celsius.

Mine is ~23

So, the small difference in the tolerance can actually have a noticable effect? I never knew that :P

Yeah, 70 degree celcius is generally the hottest I want to go, don't want to reduce lifetime. What thermal paste do you use?

5ghz isn't feasible and/or practical

That depends on the CPU, not on your opinion of it not being feasible :)

Yes, CPUs can vastly vary in OC capability. I use Antec Formula 7 for my thermal compound. Also 70 degrees is while running Aida64, not a normal workload.

that doesn't seem like you are getting full potential from your h100i...  seems a bit hot, don't you think?

I've used Arctic Silver before on an Xbox repair, and it seemed to work well, but I wasn't really planning on overclocking the Xbox :P

You won't really see a difference between different thermal compounds, provided that they are of good quality. I just picked up my Antec Formula 7 because it was either that or some crap Insignia compound at Best Buy.

Fair enough, similar to purchasing RAM then, all you really essensially need is RAM from a good name(which is compatible of course)

A 5GHz dual core would be pretty nippy though.

Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example.
