The motherboard is $195 without the rebate, which is already quite a bargain for an X99 motherboard. What they did to cut the cost of the motherboard, is beyond me. But for $155, it's quite a decent motherboard.  Reviews are decent. Maybe if you're trying to do a "Budget" X99 build.

What they did to cut the cost of the motherboard, is beyond me.

less usb and pcie ports than other x99 boards, plus the cooling does not look as beefy

That's certainly true. I overlooked that. Probably also a less beefy power delivery system.

not always, if you make videos and render often, this board, a i7 5820k and 16gb of ddr4 will be fairly comparable to high end x99 and a fraction of the price

If i where to go x99 i would go asus x99 deluxe i7 5960x 64 gb of dominator platinum
