Keyboard Backlighting

calebp123

Just wanted to see how often other people leave their backlights on. Personally I never have mine on because I'm afraid of burning it out. I know I won't but for some reason I would just be scared to do it.

I have a ducky shine 2. I have the backlights at about 50% brightness. I only turn them off when I've been up for A LONG TIME and they strain my eyes. (in a dark game)

Hell, whichever KB's that I have which ha backlighting, I'd leave it on, but not maxed out though. The only time I don't have backlight on is when I use KB's w/o backlight.... ^_^

It won't happen.

But let's say for some strange reason the LEDs did burn out.  You'd just go back to backlight off like you're doing now...  No loss.

The LEDs shouldnt burn out for a long time due to their nature this is especially the case since many newer boards now use PWM instead of voltage regulation which is significantly better in the long term.

Making it backlighted all of the time means that you going to reduce it's backlight lifespan faster. I only use it at night when I don't use my desk lamp because my shadow are going to cover the keyboard which will make the backlight looks better. I don't understand why people use it at day though, because you usually going to open your window

The MTBF for LEDs is something like 100,000 hours, that's over 11 years of continuous use.

EDIT: I keep my backlighting on all the time, looks nice.

I have to wake up early otherwise these cats are going to eat some of my fingers

I don't think of using backlight that way, it's just for aesthetic and, you know, ehm.. "pro gamers" need moar lights on their desk

why back-light is in a keyboard?

to light up the keys when it's dark so you can see them (if your looking while typing)....

so when to use it? - when it's dark ;/

if it's wireless - use it rarely, battery will die much faster

if it's on a wire - use it when it's dark.. you will save energy :)
