A few days back I started to get thinking, could an Xbox one run windows. I had originally thought about taking the parts and putting them on a full pc mobo, but then it hit me, you could just change the HDD to one with windows on it.

So, I'm wondering, would that be possible, or do you need a bios?

P.S. This is a useless thread and I just wanted to start a discussion about whether its possible or if would even be good, I'm sure it would act like a normal PC with a keyboard and mouse.

I have no actual evidence to back this, but I assume you could since it has fairly standard pc hardware in it At least, I wouldn't be surprised if you could install windows on it, but to do that I would assume you probably would have to jump through a ton of hoops.

It would be pretty difficult. The BIOS is totally different, it might require the XBONE OS, and not to mention there wouldn't be any drivers for it.

I'm guessing probably not, aside from lacking drivers its probably BIOS locked. If all the software/firmware side of things were available (which would require a fairly major leak from MS) I don't see why not though as its literally just a x86 tablet with an iGPU and some integrated proprietary/3rd party controllers.

Mhm. How much easier do you think it would be to simply adapt a custom Linux kernel to run on the Xbone?

Sig under construction.

XBox One runs Windows 8 kernel, and soon Windows 10.

This is much like the Dreamcast ran Windows CE.

You can't install full Windows that you have on your desktop. And say you do. So what? You can no longer play XBox One games, and you can't download XBox One OS again.

Nope, the instruction set for the XB1 hardware is different.

You can put a PC inside an XB case though...a bunch of people have done that.

Bit of a bump but i just had an epiphany, what if the Xbox one hdd was used and booted into a pc?, if the disk drive was installed I'm pretty sure it could work to run games and other things (of course needing to solder controller antennas).

What do you guys think? An xbox one with much beefier specs?
