Computer Shuts down when GPU goes under load

Hi all,

I know there are a few questions about random shutdowns but couldn't find any like this particularly. So i have a pc i've been using for a while now so to cut the story short, we recently had a power outage as a fuse blew, this happened last night, since then when i go to load up a game, the computer shuts itself down. I loaded up kombuster and sure enough the same thing happens again when the GPU goes under load. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be the issue? I know surges can damage any computer part but generally blow the PSU and im just wondering if anyone has any way to know or test if it is the gpu or psu? P.S. the video card is a NVIDIA 970 4GB and works just fine in terms of temps, clock speed, fan speed etc... but shuts down the pc when in load.

Thanks

Sorry yep these are correct, an update, since last shutdown pc starts and shuts down after roughly 1 second, presuming psu issue now

I would stop troubleshooting your computer until you have a new PSU installed since you know your problems started after a power outage with blown fuse, fuses pop from a power spike so you trying to start your computer over and over could be causing more damage as you might have a failed PSU.

PSU is too weak... Overcurrent protection kicks in and shuts down.

Edit: just saw your specs... PSU is probably fucked since it should have enough power for that system normally

BTW you might wanna look at your gpu usage under load a stock 8350 is not really powerful enough to use the 970's full potential

I think Your PSU got F*cked up when the power died.

My youngest brother had a similar problem, The computer crashed when the GPU got a too high load, That time it was a overheating issue.

Yeah you got a point actually, tbh it isn't starting anymore for longer than 10 seconds so... guess it's the psu, shame i dont have a spare to test that.

Yeah that's what i'm getting the idea of and on kombuster etc... the gpu can get its full potential used most games used about 90 - 100% most times though thanks anyway.

Guess it's a new power supply i want then :L
