I am running an i7-2600k (specs in signature)

I plan on running SLI 780s in the near future, but I can't on my current board.

Should I:

A ) get a 3820 and a decent 2011 board, then replace it with a 3930k when they get cheaper

B ) go with haswell and a 4770k + board

C ) wait it out and get x99 + 8 core Haswell E (maybe?)

I am a super power user. I render frequently and I use all 32GB all day. Sli is a must.

Wait for haswell-E or ivy-E

And how many 780s? Z77 can handle 2 way and even 3 way on some boards.

2 780s.

I have a z68 board. I sold my z77 board because I stopped using my 670s when I got my 780. I kept the board around for a while because I wasn't sure if the 780 could keep up with 2 last gen cards.

From what I see Haswell E should be pretty awesome so I will start saving for the flagship extreme........now.

Hello there! If you are a power user, you will definitely want to go for the 2011 platform. I personally would get a nice 2011 motherboard and get a 3930K. Prices for Intel CPUs did not really drop significantly, you might be able to save $20-$50, but probably not more than that.

If you want to get the best of the best you will want to get the Ivy-E CPUs(should be out Q3/Q4 2013). If you really want the extra features of the 2011 platform right now. Go with option 1, but get the Ivy-E CPU instead of the current Sandy-E lonce it comes out.

I personally would not wait for Haswell-E, it probably wont be out for another year or two at least.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any more questions!

I agree with @fishymamba

If you want the power then go for the 2011 chips on X79, I personally wouldn't go for Haswell chips. And if you can wait for Ivy-E then wait for Ivy-E, don't bother with Haswell-E because Ivy-E isn't even out yet.

do you think Ivy-E will be on x99 or do you think x79 will work? I can't imagine I will need any other features that aren't available on the current platform.

edit:

this site claims that the 4930k will run on x79, and that ivy e is just a die shrink.

option A sounds like shit, dont buy a 3820 just to upgrade it to a 3930k, 3930k's prolly wont go down at all for a while its already an old chip I dont think the price will change, haswell e or the 4770k depends on your demands

i agree with @fsihymamba too. go with x79 platform buy a 3820 and wait for new CPU's since they are going to be  compatible with x79 boards x79 is a smart choice ;)

demands are high, but I think a 3820 would be a nice side-grade from my 2600k and I can choose what to do later with my money when something new comes out.

yes you can you must have a lot of disposable income, upgrading from a 3820 to a 3930k is like upgrading a 3570k to a 4670k with a new mobo.  You can give me your 3820 when your done with it, np.
