2.1 amp sony xperia S

Go to solution Solved by ThE_MarD,

Heyyo,

Actually? The Sony Xperia S does support 2Amps on 5Volts. I remember before there was talks about it, but it required a specialized charger that wasn't shipped with the phone. The phone came with an EP800 charger, not the fast charging EP850.

Found it:

From what it says? The Xperia S accepts 1.5 Amps as a maximum charge rate. You do need a specialized cable that can handle 2Amps on 5Volts btw. A user on the XDA forums recommended this cable:

http://www.dx.com/p/usb-data-charging-extension-cable-for-samsung-p1000-black-91141#.VQHqTY7F98E

I myself use a 28/24 AWG cable with a ferrite core and gold plated tips for the fastest charging possible.

It's a dirt cheap cable price compared to the overpriced & under-performing ones you'll find at a local electronics shop. Those tend to only do about 1 Amp.

Using that monoprice cable? My HTC One M7 draws around 2 Amps. For example, using the stock cable on a 2.1A charger? Watching YouTube whilst charging, my battery went from 49% down to 47% after on a five minute video. Doing the same test on that monoprice cable? I went from 47% to 50% lol. 2.1A ftw. :P

So yeah, try a cable with a proper awg. Another option to monitor why it's taking so long to charge? Practical Meter.

ThinkGeek has a sale on them. It measures charging abilities in Watts. It comes with a charge-only cable too. It's a pretty neat way to see if your cables or charger or device is limiting the rate of charging. ;)

Well hello there :)

I got a quick question concerning my phone and my powerbank.

My powerbank has a 1.5 and a 2.1 amp Output and I am wondering if I can use the 2.1 for my Sony Xperia S.

Will it hurt the battery much? It should charge faster or not?

Glad to hear if you know which one to use and if it really matters.

Best regards from a cow :P

Xperia S will only draw ~1A max from any charger, so it won't matter which port you plug it into, it will charge pretty much exactly the same. The 2.1 port is for devices that can actually draw that much current from a port to benefit charging speed, such as tablets.

Uhh that's a detailled explanation thank you very much !!

One question left: How can I find out if a cable I got can handle 2.1 amp charging? The powerbank itself came with 2 cables

The cable(s) that came with the charger should be able to handle 2.1A charging.

1. Since the power bank has 1.5A and 2.1A ports, what I said above still holds true, there will be an un-noticeable difference between using the two ports, even if it can accept as high as 1.6A.

2. You don't need that "specialized" cable that is linked, a cable like that is designed for faster charging of tablets off standard PC USB ports, which are rated at 500mA (but often PC OEMs implement 1A power delivery)
