I need to know which card will have A smaller margin between max and minimum fps. Price is not a factor. I favor performance over quality and I want the best performance per dollar. I use AMD now and I know that I get lower frame rates and quality then a better Nvidia but during graphically demanding scenes on gta, the frame rate drops lower on the Nvidia than on the lower grade AMD. I prefer lower quality and greater performance than the opposite. What should I do. Fair comparisons please.

We shall not start a flame war.. Get whatever is within your budget and gives the best Price to performance. I would recommend a 290X but from reviews they run hot. A 970 is still the best price/performance imo.

It's not regulated to just the cards.

Take into account the rest of your system specs when looking into Min+Avg framerates.

There is also the fact that all games are not made equal, many games use different game engines and they all perform with variability

You cannot say that....all Games using "this setup" will have better minimums

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Not necessarily true though. Only on the very top end does nVidia usually have the fastest card.

Anyway OP I find your post WAY too confusing to give you an answer

AMD has better performance for the money compared to the competing Nvidia card. This of course excludes the 980 because there is no competing AMD counterpart (at the moment). However that better performance for the money comes at the cost of higher heat output and power consumption.

I am running an AMD fx 9590 cpu with 16gb of ram on an Asus Crosshair v formula z and a 1080p monitor.

Which is pretty nice, but we talkin about GPU's now...

What GPU do you have?

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Unlimited funds.

But I don't want to spend 2 grand on a gpu that only performs slightly better than a $1500 card. Greatest price for performance.

295X2 is a good choice, but if you don't want to wait until we can confirm that DX12 combines vRAM in CrossFire, I'd get two 8GB 290X's.

What are  you using them for? What Resolution if gaming?

You can't be serious.  Hyperthreading is a market joke?

I don't currently have a GPU in this system.

Here I thought AMD FX processors didn't have onboard internal GPU's,... so how do you not have a dedicated graphics card in your PCIE slot?

Motherboard provided? I am confuse.....

Gaming and 1080p.

1080p get a 970 imo. You could also get a 290x if the price is comparable where you live. It really depends what you prefer. I assume you are a big supporter of AMD or you wouldnt have bought a 9590.

I'd go with the 970.

290 series gets fucked over too much with gameworks titles.

/I'm being picky...but the fact remains... it's true.

For 1080p + Future titles, I think the 290/970 kind of power is where it's at....or better of course :)

If you have the cash, id honestly get a 295x2. That way if you upgrade to a higher res you don't need to worry for the next few years.
