Point of having 1440p & 144Hz?

Baoty

So i've been thinking about getting the ROG swift, but then I realized that in order for me to get remotely close to 144fps ingame at 1440p I would have to turn down the graphics HARD in games like bf4, even with my gtx titan. So what is really the point? Or am I missing something?

The resolution is higher than 1080p, so it's more sharp, and the refresh rate means it looks smoother during videos & games, if those games are higher than 60fps that is.

I think the ROG swift has G-sync, 144hz is probably more for the future.

with a few 980s you might be able to play it, but a titan is not that good

Well it's proven that the refresh rate helps a lot when it comes to decision making in-games specially FPS. The 1440p is more like the new gaming res sweet spot for gamers who aren't satisfied with High AA in games.

You have 1440p for more detail in game & G-sync so it doesnt look choppy, and 144Hz for when you run less demanding games.

I know the point of 144Hz, but when I cant even reach 144fps in high demanding games, then there's really no point of having it. Unless I take down the graphics to get it, but then i ruin the point of having 1440p because the graphics are gonna be shit anyways.

you don't need to max it out that's what g-sync is for. Competetive gameplay is usually done on 24 inch screens at 1080p which is pretty easy to max out using the right hardware. But in this case more than 60fps at 1440p is more of a luxury kind of thing rather than a Competitive gameplay thing. This why most people with these monitors are not bothered when they can't even max out 120fps/144fps in their games.

If you dont have a PC capable of 1440p 144hz, then buying a monitor that expensive is silly anyway

Also comepetitive players often run games on low settings to maximise the framerate in order to remain competitive, I play BF4 with some settings on low, just to make enemies stand out more, and give me best response times and highest FPS

But yeah, why would buy such an expensive monitor, if your PC is not powerful eonugh

future proofing :) a monitor is something you keep through several generations of builds. Not something you upgrade overtime you buy a new gpu.

I bought the Acer Predator XB280HK even though i only have a single 2gb gtx 770. But i plan too keep it for a few years, and it will probably see me through 2 or 3 gpu upgrades. I know I'm not making the most of it now, but I'm still enjoying my games in 4k non the less.

Laptop: MacBook Pro M1 512gb

I agree to a point, but I would not buy a monitor now that gave me a terrible experience, I saved up so that I could buy a new monitor along with my new RIG

and I will probably upgrade my screen again soon, since 1440p 144hz is availble now and I can easily get some new GPUs
