I'm not sure if people caught this... but the macbooks are being refreshed with "2x faster flash"

Based on some light research, the 2013 mba had sequential reads of 800mb/sec and writes of 700mb/sec. If what Apple said is true, then that's 1600mb/sec reads and 1400mb/sec writes which is simply astonishing and stupidly fast.

I don't think it will be an exact double, but considering their previous PCI E SSDs already hit 700 reads and 700 writes in 256 models that's still very impressive.

Even if it was double of just the random reads and writes, that is an enormous performance increase. I wonder how they did it? Raid 0?

I'm just making wild guesses here, but NVME??

considering how much I don't really like the new macbook, the refreshed macbook air looks promising.

Intel have already got enterprise grade flash storage with read speeds of 2600MB/s so the implementation wouldn't be too difficult, it's just good to see more value added to the MacBook Pro line, even if it's less tangible for most users.
