Keep my PC? Or upgrade?

Hey Guys,

First time on LinustechTips!

I'm in a bit of a pickle here.. I'm not sure whether i should upgrade my entire PC to make it so called 'future proof' Or if i should just replace the Graphics card as I have been every 18 months or so! I just don't want future graphics card upgrades to be bottlenecked! Below are specs

i7 3770K @ 4.2Ghz (CM EVO 212)

2 x 4GB = 8GB DDR3 G-Skill 1600Mhz

120GB SSD Samsung Evo

2TB Seagate @ 7200RPM
Asus MZ78 Micro ATX Mobo

Fractal Design 3000 Case

27" IPS Samsung 1080p Monitor

Antec 750W 80+ Bronze PSU

Windows 8.1 64-Bit

EDIT: CURRENTLY USING A GIGABYTE 280X

Help is much appreciated :)

Cheers

if your GPU is balanced with the CPU your fine for at least another year

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

upgrade your gpu to 970 or 290 or 290x

it will improve your performance a lot

and makes it future proof for at-least 2 years on 1080p

Thanks Guys,

yeah the 280X has been great for about 14 months or so but 1080P gaming can be taxing, especially with GTA V and the Witcher 3 coming out..

970 maybe? or should I wait for the the new 300 Series from AMD?

I'm still using a 2700k @ 4.4 and a 7970, which is identical to the 280x. The bottleneck in my machine is almost always the GPU. I'd put in a new one, or if your mobo/power supply can support it, you should be able to find a 280x used for ~$120-150 and run a crossfire setup.

All you really need is a 970 and possibly a little more RAM. That's all

Follow the topics you create using the "Follow" button in the top right corner!

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

More RAM? no game I've ever played has used more than 3GB

hmm, 970 only shows 5-10+ FPS over my current card. Not much of an upgrade. I'll need to weigh it all up including my budget.

Thanks Though :D

I can tell you right now its alot more then 5-10 fps

I would get a 970 and another 8gbs of ram if you want to ensure it last awhile

ram and gpu would the the biggest thing as others have said.

win 8 i have found enjoys the extra legroom with the ram. 8 GB seems to be the sweet spot for a lot of things now days.

a gpu update every couple of years is a good way to go.
