Vulkan absorbed "best and brightest" parts of Mantle.

That doesn't mean behind closed door's they have not been talking to each other... cos they do...they have been doing that for years.

Mantle, publicly announced first,.... made the public push Microsoft to make DX12 public sooner/to be competitive, that doesn't mean DX12 wasn't already somewhat in the works.... which is understandable being that DX11 is so old now.

I didn't mean to contradict myself, just worded shit wrong.

Why would Microsoft need to announce DX12 sooner when mantle only works on AMD gpu's....

Why would Microsoft need to announce DX12 sooner when mantle only works on AMD gpu's....

It's not about it only working on AMD cards.. IMO

The premise of the API itself and it's benefits, people liked the benefits enough to want it across the board on all GPU's.

With so much attention all of a sudden, they would at least have to appease all the comments/articles/whatnot by issuing a statement which may not have happened if the public outcry for information had not come about from Mantle.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Ok but even then Microsoft couldn't made DX12 to the point when they announced unless it was already that far along.... things like this don't just happen over night.

Coz Microsoft just whipped up DX12 this quick right guys? there is absolutely no way they were working on it before Mantle was made right?  -_-

microsoft thanked amd for helping them make directx 12 so probably the mantle team was talking with the directx12 team. so just as amd helped make vulkan they also helped make directx 12

(Not much of a point asking for proof as you don't have it)

Few things;

- D3D has been low-level for 15 years, the API's even on the original xbox is lower than any PC Graphics API will ever be

- A company playing pathetic nazi games such as keeping their DX11 so garbage to hype the hell out of their own API looks like a company who wanted to kill DX and Mantle is the proof for it.

- A company who was supposed to solo DX12 development on its own who didn't even have a DX12 driver ready yet during the DX12 PR doesn't look like they solo'ed it.

- [Rumouri]A company spending (I assume at least around 2 years) millions/billions to develop an API isn't going to lend it out for free unless they got it for free which comes to the conclusion AMD stole the X1's low-level API as they've been working with MS for the X1 containing all DX libraries. Anandtech asked AMD regarding this, they didn't have the balls to respond to it.[/Rumour]

AMD failed to promise the performance advantages Mantle had to offer over DX11 nor we have seen 8-core parallel rendering BS in Battlefield, their 9590 looked like a clown after it lost to a 3 times cheaper CPU at 1/5th of the power consumption. So only a small part in Vulkan's API came from Mantle, now we're supposed to believe DX12 = Mantle BS or that MS thanked AMD when the thanks picture looks like AMD made it by themselves?

We kinda do since we already know DX12 has been in the works for quite sometime.

No that said MS, MS is talking anything to get money!

money, money, money that is all they care! Nvidia and intel are exactly the same!

of course AMD wants money but they do not make something special for only them! They made tressfx and give it to nvidia! they made mantle and helped to create Directx 12 and Vulkan! they made Freesync for us! they are doing everything for us, gamers.

They make True 4 GB cards with true 384 or 512 bit!

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

Money? Microsoft is giving their new API for free unlike AMD that kept it proprietary and pushed it to boost their sales up of any of their products including their CPU's.

Mantle is dead.  We now have Vulkan.  Moving on AMD lovers.

So dead that it was the core dna that sparked Vulkan

Dead in the way that a parents dna passes along to their children, the genes live.

DirectX12 would have happened with or without mantle. What we don't know is how long it would have taken, or whether they would have ended up touting the exact same benefits as mantle.

From mantle to vulkan there is a clear connection, not so much for directx12, despite the similarities.

Well you have Richard Huddy saying Microsoft asked to bring Mantle in for DX12. The same guy who said they gave Mantle for Khronos.

It's known where DX12 "low level" features come from.

Now, there is more to DX12 then Mantle features.

So is Mantle still, kinda, technically alive? I mean mantle itself is of course shut down, but at least all the efforts of what I would assume was a pretty big team over at AMD wasn't a complete waste of time. Good to see that at least someone is making use out of what Mantle could have been.

Mantle is still alive on behalf of AMD as they are still using the API in games. AMD is looking to build and extend upon Mantle even further so I would expect Mantle 2.0 in the distant future. As to "what Mantle could of been" really is about what Mantle is. It's a fantastic API tho it would of never grew much bigger as it would never left AMD's scope. Nvidia didn't want to adopt it, Intel did for a breif moment and now DirectX 12 is on its way there is no longer a need for it. Especially once you consider how widely adopted DirectX is in the game development industry (Windows has massive market share). Tho for the time being Vulkan is an offspring of Mantle that will be around for decades. Which means once Linux gaming really takes off AMD and Kronos will be responsible for providing the graphics stack that most of us will use. It also pushed Microsoft into developing DirectX 12. Which is quite an accomplishment as AMD really didn't invest a whole lot into Mantle.
