What does raising or lowering a polling rate actually do? Is high or low better on a laser mouse?

It is the number of times it reports to your computer. Higher is better, but it really doesn't have that big of a difference. If you want a recommendation for a mouse, give a budget, use, and general hand size.

On PS/2: No idea

On USB: Changes the Hz (times per second) the computer will ask the mouse what new has happened

Thats MY opinion up there, not the ultimate option.

It's latency.

1000Hz polling rate = 1ms

500Hz = 5ms

etc...

It is not, polling rate is polling rate. ^^ A mouse with 1000hz and bad FW can have higher latency than something with 125hz.

Also it is not how often Data gets sent, but how often for Data is asked.

Depending on CPI and Mouse people might prefer a lower polling rate, either because it performs better, or simply because the tracking gets smoothed out at lower polling.

Thanks for clarification.

I though that it is simply like latency. The more often mouse ask for data the sooner mouse register movement.

So sorry for misinformation.
