So for the past week I started looking around for parts to build a completely new pc and I had everything nicely setup with a good processor, 2 Graphic cards and so forth but recently I read that Intel will be releasing Broadwell and as soon as the 2nd half of 2015 there will be Skylake and since these will probably have a different chipset than the one I had planned I'd have to pretty much start from scratch as soon as those processors are released so I wanted to hear you guys opinion on if it's worth it to build one now or just wait for the new generation.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this post.

If you have a need now, buy now. If you don't, wait until you have a need. PC parts are continually improving and there is always something around the corner, but the improvements are always small incremental improvements. Not worth waiting for if you really have a need now.

Wait for Broadwell at least since it will keep using Lga 1150 socket if you have that motherboard that is and they will come unlocked this year, as for Skylake it is expected for only 2016 "Unlocked ones" but you could get a locked Skylake chip, anyways i dont think Broadwell and Skylake will be extremely different in terms of evolutionary inovation. Well you can wait for Cannonlake :P....

I was wrong, Skylake is a new process, not a process shrink, but thats the "tock". Broadwell is the shrink of Haswell, the "tick". Kind of confusing.

I agree. Everyone knows that "tick" should happen first, and how can you shrink something that's being released in the future!

also this might be kind of off topic but what would be better in terms of gaming, a x-99 chipset withh ddr4 or a z-97 with ddr3?

Z97 and DDR3 if for cost reasons only.  Bcause DDR4 is strinctly a power saving benefit, and X99 has not shown better performance with the current crop of games (and there is no reason to think that will change.)
