iPad Air 2 Pictures Take Up Too Much Space

Millzy

Today my mom asked me about the memory on her iPad being full and I instantly knew it was the photos and videos. I know I can just put them on her computer for her but that is not issue.

She only has 144 pictures and 20 videos only about 30 seconds each and it says it all equals 9.9 GB.

That can't be right can it?

Well, I recommend stop taking pictures with an iPad.

However, sometimes syncing can indeed cause strange things to happen. I'd wipe it and resync.

The projects never end in my line of work.

How much storage does she have, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB or 128GB?

Well the videos certainly could be taking up a majority of the space, perhaps clear those off?

Well I don't think that is the issue becuase I used to have a 8GB iphone 4 and I had 500 pictures and about 25 videos and it took nowhere near that much memory

because of the grainyness of the ipad camera the picture cant be compressed as much and therefore takes up more space unlike on the iPhone where the camera is semi-decent

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

That's 10 minutes of 1080p video. That will all those photos can easily add up to 9 gbs.

Your iPhone 4 had like a 1MP camera. The iPad 2 has like a 4MP camera, the pictures and videos are gonna be bigger. You can't compare them that way. Its a simple problem, your out of space so delete some stuff and put it on Dropbox or onedrive if you still want access to it from the iPad from other places than home.

The iPhone 4 actually has a 5MP camera, I believe, and his mum has the iPad Air 2 and it has a 8MP camera. ;)

Its possible that the video format or compression on the ipad air is different than on the iphone 4.

I never knew videos took up quite that much space.  Well anyways thanks for helping me.  I was just curious.

Videos are usually shot in 24 or 30 fps, so that's either 24 or 30 pictures per second in the video at either 720 or 1080p. If you do the math, you'll know how much space a video takes and why it takes so much space. Another thing, iOS keeps a backup of the photos that you delete just in case you accidentally deleted them. You can clear those out by going to photos app, go to albums, recently deleted, select and pick the ones you want to delete or delete all on the bottom left.

iPhone 4 takes 480P video. iPad Air 2 takes 1080p video.

1080p video takes about 5-6 times as much space as a same-length 480p video.

That can't be right can it?

Where are you reading the 9.9GB from? On the iPad or iTunes?

'Videos' includes videos shot by the iPad but also iTunes movies/TV Shows/Music Videos too
