WHAT DO I DO!?!?!?!

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

I think it's weird that you weren't able to sell off the 970, if this was before the whole controversy that was going on. You should have easily gotten towards 300 for it.

People were being absurd when I was asking $350 for my $400 card that I used for a month. People were offering $200.

People were being absurd when I was asking $350 for my $400 card that I used for a month. People were offering $200.

Cause its used and people hate the card. I would give you $150 at most.

Also why sell the entire system?

Lets all ripperoni in pepperoni

people didnt hate the card when it was still unavailable at retailers

You dont have experiance in selling do you?

The card is retailing for bout 320 right now. So $100 off for being used. And $20 off for the VRAM issue.

Bam $200 is the most you get.

Not the month after it came out... they were going for $450 new so I should've been able to sell it for $350... but I couldn't.

Lets just say, if the card was actually defective (Not VRAM), couldn't you have simply contacted the manufacturer of the card for an RMA?

Well wouldn't have mattered, Newegg wouldn't accept my return like 3 days after 30 days from purchase. Also I took off the cooler so that voided the warranty.

I never saw these cards go for $450 from retailers. At most you could of sold the card for $300 used. But that would of been a hard sale. Also since you took the cooler off that hurts the value as well. Bringing the value down further. So maybe $250 would of been fair imo. Still better than losing as much money as you did.

UPDATE:

I did make a video that happened to sell 13 confirmed GTX 970's... ~$5000 USD (the MSRP for my card was $400). My dad said that it wasn't enough so I very politely asked if there was anything else that they could do and for an autograph. I did have the info from the first sentence in a separate email so he does know that I gave the company a certain share of that amount.

Sell a whole system over a card? Geez the butthurt is amazing on these 970s. I would have delt with the manufacturer not newegg.

You cost urself 400$ and ended up with a gpu with LESS VRAM and ultimatly providing you with less fps. Literally no logic. For 400$ you could have got another 970.

What to do?! Here is my conversation with an un-named Nvidia executive that I had today:

ME:

Hello, Sir. I have purchased 5 Nvidia graphics cards in one year (660, 770, 650, 970, 960). They all have been incredible except for the 970. I attempted to return it to Newegg (I felt that something was wrong with the performance which ended up being the VRAM) but they did not accept my return. I was not able to sell it on eBay with success. So I needed to sell my entire system (I was planning to change parts anyways so if I was going to sell one I might as well sell them all). I paid about $1500 for the parts. I was only able to sell the PC for $1050 after 3 months of trying. I had to pay fees to eBay and shipping was about $100. I got about $800 from it all. So, I pretty much lost $700 from the miscommunication between the design and advertisement teams and Newegg refusing return. But with that $800 guess what I bought? New parts for my secondary PC including a GTX 960 from MSI. I was still a loyal customer after I was indirectly and unintentionally taken $700. Also I made a positive video over the GTX 970 that has gained over 10,000 views on YouTube and swayed a decent number of purchases from positive reactions to performance and conversations in the comments. I like Nvidia. I will support your company as long as you make good products. I even have a Shield. I know that you have a lot going on with law suits over this. I just think that $40 from Newegg can’t compensate for $700 indirectly lost. Yes it was my decision to sell the computer. But I would’ve never had to sell it if the 970 didn’t have VRAM problems. Thank you for your time. I can provide proof of purchase (and selling) of every item mentioned here if you would like.

*Just to clarify I am not asking you for $700 (I would have to be stupid to do that) I am simply letting you be aware of my situation.*

HIM:

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your note, Jensen is traveling and asked me to get back to you.

We all work very hard to build great products for gamers, that is why I love working at NVIDIA.

I appreciate your support as a GeForce gamer and especially for promoting the GTX970 on Youtube.

Personally, I believe the GTX970 is the best product we have ever offered by most measures; performance, power, price, memory.

I am not sure what performance problems you saw with the GTX970, but I am pretty certain we could have addressed them.

That said, I am sorry we disappointed you with our communication about the GTX970 memory architecture, and that you decided to sell your system.

It is a small token, but if you are interested in some NVIDIA gear to decorate yourself or your PC, I can get some out to you.

I hope we can win back your trust.

ME:

Oh that would be great! My address is: -------------------

Also, I know you usually work with Corsair but if you could maybe ask Fractal Josh if I can obtain an R4 side panel from somewhere that'd be great. Thanks for the quick response.

Should I maybe come across as a leech and ask for more? I asked a few people and they all said to ask them for $700 straight up and what not. Similarly, others said that $10 worth of stickers is no compensation at all. WHAT TO DO?!!?

I am pretty pissed about the 970 fiasco, but since you already sold it (right?) they no longer owe you anything (you should have tried to get a refund from them directly or a compensation, but with your 970 on hand), so i would just take what he offered and be thankful for the small apreciation.

Wow dude, next time you need to calm down, take two steps back, and think hard about the decisions you make before you make them. Selling everything was not very smart my friend. Heck even selling your 970 was arguably silly. If you had performance problems perhaps you had installed your AIO wrong? but it seems like it's too late now.

The best you'll receive here is advices on how to not screw up next time. When it involves money think twice before buying / selling something you want / need. You can't blame it on nvidia's vram thing for anything that you did...

You either acted very irrationally, or you're trying to get a money grab out of the vram situation (made up story?). I don't know which one is worse.

Effectively he bought a $900 GTX 960 when he already had a much faster card... really don't understand how can that be justified.

I call bs.. someone somewhere you'll buy a reasonably priced 970 on eBay.. by reasonably priced I don't mean knock $10 off because it's a couple of months old. it was still second hand. 60 to 70% of any used product regardless if it was bought a month before is still a good return for pc parts.

at the end of the day EVERYONE who bought a 970 did so based on the reviews it got. the card EVERYONE got still gets those benchmarks. so nobody has been sold anything they weren't expecting. only people buying blind without ever hearing a thing about the gpu have something to moan at.

and you wanted rid of a 970 because it wasn't performing how you'd expect so bought a 960..a card that performs far worse..

My mind keeps coming to your situation.
Please somehow explain to me.
The price which you payed for your system is $1500.

One part of your system costed you $350, but you weren't happy with it. You wanted another component, which costs $200, to replace it.

You tried to sell your old part on eBay for I imagine $300, a deal which was good for you, but really not great for a buyer's perspective, since he can get a NEW card for only $50 more.
If you have sold your old part for the extremely low price of $150, a deal which would be REALLY appealing to the buyer, and bought your new part, your system cost is now $1500 -150 + 200 = $1550.
Instead you sold your entire system for $800. If you buy the new GPU for $200, your system cost is now at 1550 -800 + 200 = $950.
When you get THE REST OF THE PARTS THAT YOU DAMN NEED, you will spent another $1150 if you want to mirror your old system. ($1150 for a no GPU system is plain dumb to spend. You can have a 4790K and 16 gigs of ram on a descend board FOR FAR LESS... and nothing more than that would be needed for anything gaming related. Even that's a bit of an overkill). So now your system cost is 950 + 1150 = $2100. And EASILY it could've been $1550.

Not this is a 2100 - 1550 = $550 difference.
Even if you have destroyed your 970 with a bat and gotten a 960, your cost would've been 1500 + 200 = $1700.

So in the worst case scenario you would've been 2100 - 1700 = $400 richer... $400.

Yes, because a company that ran out of stock of the 970's in the first few days of release needed your single YouTube video. And $5000? Thats chump change for NVIDIA.

I could go on, but I would probably get banned, and you're not worth it.
