Random high pitch noise when loading

This is something I've never experienced before. It only happens sometimes and it happens when something is loading. If it's a picture loading the whine will be a little longer, and if it's a page loading it'll be a very quick whine, so I've ruled out worn fan bearings. It could be coil whine but I've only experienced this when hitting ridiculous FPS like 1,000. I can't pinpoint where it's coming from. My guess is it's either the GPU or the HDD. It's not really concerning me, it's just a minor annoyance.

mostlikely it will be the GPU. there are instances between when you move from one thing to a next the entire system will be under load to get to the next thing. if you have a fps OSD you may see the frams drop to less than 5 at an average of about 0-1fps. which would indicate coil whine.  try something like kombuster and seeing if your gpu makes noise while the test is running. that should give you a good indication as to you noise. 

 

IF its anything like BF4, when i am waiting to enter a game, right just before I enter my hdd with make a hdd noise, not sure why but it tells me i am about to enter the match. coil whine and HDD noises sound different and are different all together.

coil whine is the results of certain components on the pcb, typically resistors, that vibrate hat high frequencies. generally cheaper components are a result of this issue. while the issue is typically noticeable when the gpu is running at 100% the truth is the part is always doing this. it just becomes more apparent as more electricity is flowing through this part. so while it is audible at full load the point is you could have components that are also audible at low loads. linus has a video where a card made different coil whine noises based on whether the player was looking at the ground or at the sky and that it always coil whined, 24/7.

My brother has had several 970s with terrible coil whine, they all whined the loudest at high FPS. Just like you described, you could literally make the card sing a song by looking up at the sky and then looking back down in a game. My R9 290 does it too, but only in load screens when FPS goes above 1000. Actual load doesn't seem to affect it much, as when playing 1080p at 100% load the card is silent when displaying 60-70 FPS.

 

I get what you mean, but generally its still more likely for the coil whine on a card to be most noticable at high FPS, so I don't really see how you've disproven my previous statement. I never said that coil whine is CAUSED by high FPS, only that it is most noticable in such situations.

also true . coil whine can also be a result of FPS. it just depends on where in the circuit that part lies.  sorry, i slightly passed over that while i was walking.
