So i just noticed that the prices of nvidia cards have gone up a good 10% in europe. I mean whats the logic behind this , heck they should have gone down with the 970 fiasco but they went up? Am i missing something?

Value of the Euro is dropping... so prices are gonna go up.

Yes you are missing that hardware in Europe is getting more expenive these days due to the weak Euro and stable US Dollar. That is quite normal what you see right now and is not just happening in PC hardware.

Hardware is always cheaper in the USA, that´s why I have a whole bucket of awesomness here ;).

The govt and internet access is better in America.

Also you get to rack up massive debt that you never have to pay off.

That was uncalled for , in case you havent noticed Americas debt is 100x Europes but thats completely besides the point. The point is prices are increasing where performance is dropping (3,5+0,5)

Well since AMD hasn't released their next gen GPU's Nvidia doesn't have much competition therefore they don't have any reason to lower prices.

nVidia always (well if you can take their word for it) assumed that the card they were selling was 3.5GB + 0.5GB, they just "failed to communicate it". In essence, the cards that have already been sold, well, their performance never dropped. Like it or not, GTX 970 is often the best choice at that price bracket, especially since AMD doesn't seem to be pushing the same kind of R9 deals in the EU as they do in the US.

Euro has gotten slightly weaker, but not much - it's the dollar that has been getting stronger.

I think that dollar got stronger and if the resellers are getting components from US that's why it's more expensive. They have to rise the price to still get some money from it.

I watched some PC parts since Dec 2014. E-shop where i bought my PC: i5-4690 +30€, GTX 970 +30€, Mobos +15€ (exc. VAT) and so on, so yea DARK TIMES for us who live in EU :D

Spoiler

They do this every year, demand is going down because everyone is waiting for the next GPU, they'll silently go up so they can get a little extra cash and then drop the price after the the 390x comes out.

"Save 10%" when your actually buying it at last years price.

Did you just compare a single country to all of Europe? Okay.

Now is probably not the best time to be upgrading In some parts of the world. In Canada I'v seen a 10-15% increase across the board for cpus and gpus Since new year, In some cases 30%.

R9 3900XT | Tomahawk B550 | Ventus OC RTX 3090 | Photon 1050W | 32GB DDR4 | TUF GT501 Case | Vizio 4K 50'' HDR
