Looking for new CPU

Hello,  I am looking for a new CPU that is compatible with what I have below.  I upgraded my motherboard a few months ago so I want to stay with AMD.  My budget is right around $200 but I am flexible.

  • CPU   AMD FX 6300  :(

  • Motherboard  Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0

  • RAM  16GB Corsair Vengeance (2x8) 1600 Mhz

  • GPU  Radeon 7850

  • PSU  Antec 650w 80+ Bronze

Thanks

In my opinion it's not wise to upgrade to a FX 8 core now I would get a nice i5 for that money but you will need a new motherboard for that.

I think the only option you have is the FX 8320.

But I would save some money to get a cheap H97/H87 motherboard with a Intel i5-4xxx

Why would you not recommend me to upgrade to a FX 8 core?

Why would you not recommend me to upgrade to a FX 8 core?

Very little performance gain for the money spent. The only sensible upgrade would be to save up for an i5 solution.

Why would you not recommend me to upgrade to a FX 8 core?

Since it's already old and with this budget you can get a nice i5 which destroys the 8 core in gaming.

And you don't gain much performance on the AMD platform.

-snip-

A compatible CPU for you is a 8350. Which I would recommend not upgrading to.

It would be better to save up more money and purchase an i5, and a z97 board. Which would cost around 300$ (USD)

Quote my post if you need me to respond.

I would go for i5 4690k things a beast when it comes to gaming has hyperthreading and 4 cores and right now its going for around 220-240 but its worth it.

Ok, If I went Intel. Which i5 would I get?

If you are not overclocking a locked i5 (i5 4440) and a cheap h81 motherboard would be good. If you are overclocking get an i5 4690k and a z97 motherboard :)

No. An i5 doesn't have hyper threading. An i7 is hyper threaded.

How much would getting an i5 increase my performance with games such as Arma 3 Multiplayer and DayZ?

A lot. Those games like single threaded performance. Wouldn't be surprised if you gain over 20+ frames in those games.

Ok,  going with a intel CPU might save me money because I was planning on getting a new GPU and case (Because a better CPU won't fit in my current case LOL) to play game such as DayZ and Arma3 with better FPS.

What GPU do you have right now

Unfortunately, only a AMD 7850 2GB (stock settings)

i3's 4 threads 2 cores
