A sound card just plays the music coming out of your PC at *usually* better quality, as well as *usually* giving you more audio outputs/inputs

Do not buy a soundcard, they literally make no difference at all

Yeah they do. Unless you have a $300+ high end motherboard with special audio processing, it will make a difference.

Lets agree to disagree.

I bought a modmic for recording youtube videos. Using it always filled my recordings with EMI. I looked on youtube and google and everyone solved this issue by using something other than onboard audio.

I then bought a Xonar DG for $30 and it completely fixed the issue. No more static or EMI at all from the mic.

I did not notice any increase in the OUTPUT audio quality, but thats because I dont use high end headphones or studio monitors.

They aren't necessary unless your headphones or mic can actually benefit from them though.

Do I just upload music to them via usb or what? Is it done off the cloud. I just want to make sure I know what I'm buying before I spend $180 on a piece of whatever soundcards are made of. Cardboard???

Will it make a ifference

Exactly, we're talking about audio quality here

Ask any audiophile ever, sound cards are a waste of money for audio quality and if you actually need an improvement, a DAC + AMP is the way to go.

ya, don't get a soundcard. You'll just be wasting money, especially with these headphones.

If you want to waste money, just give it to me :P

If you want to take full advantage of the Astro A50, then yes, you will need a sound card with Dolby digital via optical output.

Any one else that says otherwise is wrong or is speaking generally about other head sets. It's in your product manual in the box, and it's on their website.

Guaranteed.

Look at step #2.

That being said, the A50 WILL work in stereo without the sound card.

'Audiophiles' won't touch Astro with a 10 feet pole. Not because lack of quality, but lack of bona-fide....

It's all opinions, man.

Even gear heads / petrol heads can't agree on which cars are best. It's all about who likes what based on their own senses and preferences.
