Usually you should be able to find something more up to date with the same price. That something more up to date has more features, so it's usually better to just go for the more recent rather than the really old.

Its kind of a a "meh" card. It was a pretty low end card even back in the day, so depending on your uses it could be fine.

Im building a system with parts from 2000-2005 and im wondering if the nvidia 8400gs is good for my build?

 I use a 5450 (2gig) on mine. more than enough at 720p most of the time. Had a little problem with CoD-2 but made minor adjustments to a setting and that was taken care of. it was also the newest game I played on that system. So yes, enough.

 

( the gs had up to 1gig if I remember correctly ) (256/512/1 )
