Newegg ROG Swift finally on sale!

anthonyc813

They label it as 144hz, but not at 1440p. Funny how displayport 1.2 on the swift can only supply enough bandwidth for around 110hz at 1440p. Wtf actually happens if you are outputting 144fps at 1440p....are frames just lost or?

Sidenote: Didn't asus announce/tease a new 1440p 120hz IPS G-sync monitor at ces?

DisplayPort has more than enough bandwidth for 144Hz at 1440p. What are you talking about?

And yes, the MG279Q.

I don't recall what mod on this forum who told this kid who went completely bonkers about it, but the mod said displayport 1.2 only has enough bandwidth to supply roughly 108 frames per second at a resolution of 2560 by 1440....like hdmi is 4k at 30hz and sometimes 60hz.

Well, he was wrong :P

2560x1440 pixels per frame x 24-bits per pixel x 144 frames per second = 12.7Gbps. DisplayPort 1.2 has 17.28Gbps maximum bandwidth after encoding overhead.

HDMI 2.0 can do UHD (what consumers call 4k, but there's a difference apparently) at 60Hz, but HDMI 1.4 (I think, correct me) can only do it at 30Hz

It's been about $35 cheaper on Amazon for the past two weeks (around $750 USD though right now it is out of stock and only available from third party retailers who mark up the price). Newegg's base price for the Swift is $899.99 which is odd since is recommended retail for the Swift is $799.99.

I saw a ces video of asus showing off a 4k ips g-sync monitor, that's for sure. I was incorrect when i said the MG279Q-27 had g-sync, but it will have variable refresh rate.

Yes you are 100% correct.. it is a few bucks cheaper on Amazon right now. I got my tax return as was gonna pull the trigger on the Swift.

I've had this since back when it first launched and was impossible to find, and I've absolutely loved it. It doesn't look quite as good as my Plasma TV--what I was coming from using. But everything else about it is fantastic.
