I would like to learn to use it since they're depending on me for this. I'm mostly a hardware person but I need to start learning software as well :P

It's fairly simple to use actually, basically just start it up, select your network adapter, and start collecting data. The interface for looking through packets is fairly nice with them all organized by type and each packet is broken down into sections. Try running it on YOUR home network first to check out how it works, just make sure whatever network you are running it on your have explicit permission to run it and collect data!
