I'm pretty new to the PC building community, and I'm looking for a fully modular 500W+ PSU. I've been looking around, but I'm not sure how I should be looking or how I can know if what I've found is any good. So, I decided to ask up the experts: the supposedly friendlier-than-most LTT community. Have any suggestions? Because I really don't know what I'm doing.

That ain't Falco.

Damn you guys are fast.

What are you trying to run currently and what do you want to run in the future potentially?

A 4790K, Asus Maximus VII Hero, GTX 980, and two sticks of 4gb ram. (Does other stuff make a difference? Please tell me if I'm saying something stupid)

You could run that with an aggressive OC on a 350-400W PSU but there are just about no value options for that wattage. I would go XFX XTR 550W for single 980 or EVGA G2 750W for dual 980 (potentially)

XFX XTR 550W is a good psu.

^definitely this, I've the 650W version and it's just a seasonic rebrand, so has guaranteed quality full jap caps in it, plus the semi passive fan mode which can be turned off as well (though I'm not sure why you'd want to turn it off)
