Hey im planning on buying the Intel Pentium g3258 Anniversary Edition for the build i want to do called OathKeeper or as @Delusional Phil says OathBreaker for anyone else who gets the reference lol:

Im wondering if the GA-B85M-DS3H is able to overclock the CPU. If it can what is about the average oc and ov it can handle. If not whats a good cheap motherboard that does support overclocking.

Im partial to this board mostly because i can get both it and the CPU for $100 flat from newegg. But hey ill do what i need and buy what i need to in order to get a good solid overclock..... Within reasion. Im not spending 150+ on a motherboard right now lol.

Oh and if anyone is running a similar build, how does it run while gaming and such.

What is that 2 phase Power? Don't expect amazing Overclocks from low end boards with no vrm cooling

Core I7 5960X / Gigabyte X99 SOC Force / Kingston 16GB DDR4 3000 / EVGA GTX 980 Classified's In Quad SLI / EVGA 1600W G2

Core I7 6700K / Asus Z170 Maximus VIII Hero / Corsair 16GB DDR4 3000 / MSI R9 290X Lightning / EVGA 1600W T2

I have a g3258 @4.4 and I'd recommend an i3. No need for another cooler and better multitasking. But it works good for league, minecraft, and bioshock infinite with a 750Ti.

G3258 @ 4.5 | 8GB Team Vulcan RAM | 128GB Kingston V300 SSD (I didn't know what I was doing when I bought it) | MSI H81I Motherboard | Corsair H55 with Noctua NF-P12 | EVGA SSC GTX 960 4GB | OCZ 550W Fully Modular PSU with Noctua NF-A14 | Cooler Master Elite 130 (Soon to be something cool)

What MB do you have? I like the g3258 price to performance that i dont feel like id get with an i3 because of the overclockability of it.

I'd go with a cheap Z97 board, to eliminate any bios updates, some h81 and b85 board will need it to see that pentium.

its a pentium, doesnt take much power to OC, a cheap board will do fine.

an overclocked pentium @4.7 can match or beat a high end i3 in many apps, it really kicks ass in 1-2 threaded programs, @4.4 you should be matching or beating the low end i3s.

Any recommendations^???

its a bit more, but you will have no hassle like you might have with a lower end board

The pcmate is great for the pentium and can handle mild OCs on i5s or i7s

What do you mean by hassle? The lower end msbs don't have oc support?

some, i know for sure(asus), can overclock the pentium, but they need a bios update. the problem with that is, the motherboard might not read the cpu at all before the bios is updated. so, unless you have an original haswell chip laying around to do the bios update, you might as well be putting an AMD cpu in there

Why does the motherboard matter? I have a MSI H81I anyways...

I guess I just don't think it's worth the extra money that's needed for the cooler and the time it takes to OC. Also, you might get one that can only OC to a little over 4.0 like I've seen before.

It matters because i want to do a lot of OCing. The MB i know is a large contributer to this, as @Mentalguy has stated.
