Ok so what are the real big advantages to using a custom loop over a closed one, besides the fact that you can cool stuff like the ram and gpu. I mean is there a real temp and performance difference between a water cooled gpu and an air cooled one? Also is there a real performance difference between a cpu cooled by a closed loop and a custom loop?

From what I've heard with a custom loop you get far greater temp drops which are then stabilized by the fact there is usually more coolant to cool the parts before the coolant heats up rather than in a closed loop where there is far less coolant and usually smaller rads and such, which heats up more as the rad cannot cool the coolant faster than a big thick custom loop rad.

custom will always be better. It's just a matter of you thinking the extra cost justifies the better upgrade-ability and temps. Maybe get the swiftech h220.

AIO's are like very low tiers of a custom loop.

AIO's gets the job done on a low cost with no maintenance, where a custom loop is high cost, need maintenance but offer far greater cooling options and far greater cooling performance. (Plus wayyyyy better aesthetics)

Honestly, there's not much of a performance difference between air and WC. Sure you can OC your CPU higher but you most likely won't see the performance gain except in benchmarking.

The reason I did WC was for the noise. I was sick and tired of playing games and hearing the fans roar all the time. It was hard for me to enjoy games because the noise level completely ruins any immersion there was in the game.

Sure WC is expensive and can be a time consuming process but its worth it. You'll find out really quick how much you enjoy working on computers as soon as you start WC. If you don't enjoy doing that kind of thing then I absolutely don't recommend WC. However, if you love tinkering with stuff then you'll enjoy it.

If you don't mind the noise level on air then there's absolutely no reason to do WC, aside from looks. Sure you may get a little more out of your CPU and GPU but its not enough reason to do it. You'd be better off spending that money on something else like a faster CPU, GPU, or adding another GPU. You'll see more gains from doing those things then you'll ever get from WC.

Hope that helps you decide!

One more reason. In order to equal a good water cooler, you need a beefy heat sink...beefy heat sinks tend to sit over your RAM, causing potential interference or causing you to remove the cooler in order to change out RAM. On the other hand, water cooling leaves the slots open.

Yeah I completely forgot about that one. It's nice having your case completely open and not worry about a 50 pound heatsink inside.
