Hey guys

I'm really confused

got about £450, will be doing overclocking as well as video editing and gaming and 3d modeling - plan to leave this pc as is for the next year or so so needs to be a little future proof in that regards.

so X4 860k with 750TI

or

G3258 With 750TI

Bare in mind i would use a Z97 pc mate for my build

This was my build

 http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/prLxP6

Whereas this is the intel build

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/XMgxP6

What would everyone suggest???

i'm not sure how those 2 CPUs perform compared to each other, but i just want to add that i'm unsure about you needing 2133MHz memory...

its cheaper than some other 8gb 2 stick selection

If you're doing some editing and 3D modeling, the 860K will be the CPU for you because of it being a "quad"-core.

why "quad"????

this is so much better for the same price (450, as your link didn't count ram price).

That's seriously underpowered for what you need. And futore proofing does not exist, ESPECIALLY when you are spending 450£ total.

@harrynowl 's build is MUCH better. But don't expect it to be good for rendering. If you want to do some serious 3d modeling you'll need to spend a lot more.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

AMD CPUs don't have real 4 cores. It's 2 modules, with 2 cores each. Idk the exact mechanics but the two sub-cores are bound to the same cache or something. So it doesn't make them independant cores however they can be leveraged by the system as if they were. This increases render speeds.

who cares...

No. It simply doesn't have all the features of higher end chipsets. But on your budget you're much better off sacrificing those features for a faster cpu.

Yep, in practice it's very much like intel's hyperthreading, however it lacks the ability to revert to a faster single core if need be. The modules share cache and a few other parts.

Thats a weird system

Currently i run 3d modeling on a 3 year old APU e450

The thing is I would like a little bit of upgrade path that includes over clocking as ths is something i want to get into

If you're going to buy only one computer with that budget, leave overclocking for your next build when you have more money. The athlon and the pentium are not as fast as the i3, even when overclocked. For overclocking it would be better to step it up to an unlocked i5, but of course it's almost twice the price of the i3. You can still swap the i3 for an unlocked i5 or i7 later if you want to.

Its all so confusing

i did come up with this

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/KgxmJx

would this be better that the 860k build?

Yes, but you're straight up wasting money for a z97 motherboard since the i3 won't be able to overclock much if at all. Get what @harrynowl suggested, it's still much better.

you can stay with the g3258 if you want lga 1150 platform and since by being in that platform you can later easily add an i5 or even an i7 if you get the money...,.

g3258 will perform better in games, but for video-editing and 3d work the athlon will pull ahead since it is a quad core cpu and more cores are better for video editing than faster cores.

Think i'll go for the pentium linus says its good to plus like you say i5 as next step, i also read the broadwell is going on the 1150 so hopefully haswell i5's go down in price :)

Not for what you want to use it for though! You would be much better off with more slower cores, than two fast ones. The build linked above makes a tonne of sense for your budget. The 280 is a very decent mid-high range GPU and the i3 will be much better than either the Pentium or the 860k

So in your opinion an i3 is best???

I know what your going to say but are there any decent z97 micro atx board??? think i'm taking everyones advice and thinking an i5 next and well over clock would be nice at that point i was thinking

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/MzcrnQ

does take over budget but this would be ok as i would be able to upgrade, if that makes sense?? i was thinking £450 if i had to build next year but if i go z97 i suppose i won't have to

Besides may go xeon next year

One last thing @harrynowl thank you for this build

This i3 looks great

It depends what you want the Z97 for, feature wise it has nothing over the B85 other than overclocking.

If you intend to go Xeon you should stick with the B85 as it wouldn't make a difference being on Z97.
