Debating on portrait mode monitors

I have 3 1080p monitors on a triple monitor stand.

I used to play in surround, but I got tired of not being able to adjust the FOV all the time, and even in some games it makes me sick. I have been thinking about taking the two monitors on the left/right of my main monitor and rotating them clockwise.

Does anyone here use monitors in portrait mode? Are there any downsides? I'm hoping it will give me a better overall web browsing experience, and might even make writing papers in word a bit easier without needing to mess with the zoom so much.

The downside of triple portrait 1080p displays is that you will pretty much always see bezels in front of you. It's fine if you can somehow get over that.

He is saying landscape in the middle. Only the two monitors on the side are portrait.

Ahh, I misread.

Does that mean no more gaming in surround?

yep! I'm not quite sure how it would look visually though. Nobody wants a huge eye-sore on their desk

Yeah, when it works, it's really immersive and I love it. But unfortunately, in some games it's not possible to adjust the FOV, and that makes me sick. I'm just tired of always needing to edit a config file or even worse be forced to game on a single display because surround just doesn't work.

I use triple portrait for surround gaming, and I find it more immersive than triple landscape. You might as well try it out since you are going to move your monitors anyways ;)

The moment I turned my monitors into portrait mode I fell in love with it, and I couldn't game any other way.

The FOV problem is unique to triple landscape (triple portrait has a near 16-10 aspect ratio). Triple portrait makes the whole game feel a lot bigger. Bigger than it feels in triple landscape.

If you wanna try two portrait with one landscape, go ahead. I've heard it's nice for working on projects while using the Internet or reading documents. Gaming would be limited to one monitor only though :'(
