Not a lot is needed. Just a sturdy(heavy) tripod and shutter remote controller.

This^^. You can still do it without either one if you have somewhere to set the camera that is steady and use any speed 30 seconds or less.

A sturdy tripod is the main ingredient you need and a remote shutter to avoid any shakes when pressing the shutter button on the camera.

one that i did recently :D

tripod, high F number(lost the word) and ehmm a prime, zoom elements blow for long exposure even at minimum focal length.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

As others have said, a sturdy tripod, and a remote shutter release. Depending on what type of long expose you want to do, a Neutral Density (ND) or Circular Polarising filter can be extremely important too.

I just shot some astrophotography the other day. I'd just gotten a 22mm f/2.0 lens for my Canon EOS M and the sky was clear. I had a tripod and an app for my HTC One that makes the IR blaster work like the official Canon remote, except it's free. Mostly I just ended up using the self-timer on the camera though. I just set it for two seconds so I had enough time to get my paws off the camera. 25 seconds and ISO 1600 or 15 sec and ISO 3200 seemed to do the trick. I had done it once before, but back then I had a crappy old Panasonic superzoom and I didn't know anything about photography so nothing really came of it. I'm waiting for Lightroom 6 to brush up the photos so I won't can't show them yet.

You just need a tripod, you can trigger the shutter with countdown anyways. Although a shutter release cable is better.

30 second exposure, f/16, ISO 100 with a Canon 600D & kit lens @ 18mm

Also used the cheapest tripod and shutter release I could find on Amazon. For inspiration, just take your camera out and shoot :)

tripod, stock lens...

I'll try long exposure again once I figure out the time delay for the shutter (because I'm too stingy to buy a remote shutter release)

My DSLR, TS lens (if I have access to one), tripod, Remote Shutter, and an ND filter (for long exposures during the day). I make sure I lock up the mirror too to prevent vibrations.
