*cough wrong section *cough

GPU is not a peripheral. Its HW.

Don't buy 960. Its mid end gpu.

So depending on price/deal it is 290x or 970.

ok Heres what i have so far CASE: (nzxt s340)

CPU: (i5 4444)

CPU cooler: (hyper evo 212)

MOTHERBOARD: B85-G43 GAMING

SSD: (samsung 850 evo)

PSU: (EVGA SuperNOVA 750B1)

RAM: (hyperx fury 2x4 8gb)

Stock cooler would be absolutely fine acording to other people but its nice to have aftermarket :).

Personal opinion: I don't trust business grade mono.

If 600-650w PSU is cheaper (same spec) I would get that since 750 is overkill even for 290x. I think Linus said that too much left over room is not good for PSU, its best to keep it around 80% usage.

ok but ive heard terrible stories from both nvidea and amd gpus like the .5 gbs missing on the gtx and some other things on the amd

Dude, my 290x plays games at ultra @ 1080l bout 80fps. Future proofenes? Get outta town

The 970 is probably worse in resolutions about 1440p and comes neck to neck below that

Lets all ripperoni in pepperoni

You are always going to hear about issues with every GPU because people tend to complain loudly when something isn't what they wanted or they get a lemon, and people with no experience with the GPU will repeat something they read online as if its gospel truth and the same for every one of the same cards.

You will see people complain repeatedly about the 290x drawing too much power and running too hot, despite the fact it draws just slightly more power than a gtx 780ti and ran cooler with a quality card like a sapphire tri X, vapor X or MSI lightning.

Same goes for the 970. You'd think every one has horrible coil whine and the VRAM issue cripples the cards performance.

With both the 290x and the 970 these are legitimate issues SOME people had with SOME cards, but due to the nature of the internet are things most owners don't really find to be a problem. So just look at benchmarks from reputable online reviews(avoid GPUBOSS like the plague) and go with whatever card fits your needs and budget.

The 960 however really is total crap. An overpriced POS that is almost obsolete at launch for top quality gaming with upcoming titles, with cheaper more powerful AMD competitors. The only thing the card does well is low power consumption, but integrated graphics has even lower power consumption and id never recommend that for gaming, so power consumption is overrated as a serious consideration. I just look at low power consumption as icing on the cake, not something id base my decision on.

From charts I have seen, the 970 is slightly faster than the 290x at 1080p. But the 290x edges out the 970 at 1440p in certain scenarios.
