Switching cherry MX key switches

arodrake

I know it's possible to actually buy individual cherry MX key switches.
I was wondering if anyone has tried switching their keys? is it possible and is it difficult?

I'm thinking of switching some of my keys from brown to blue.

Hmm, this is actually a really good question. I got a spare Logitech keyboard i guess i can test it out with?! :o

I'm not sure how to tho, but i would guess it's not the best idea since everything is connected (If you know what i mean) ^^

It has been done but it's an extremely long and gruesome journey! You will need to resolder every switch from what I've heard so in my opinion, unless you are good with a soldering iron, don't do it.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

i know digikey has cherry switches, at just over $1 each

so it will cost $100+ to redo an entire board.

if you have plate mounted switches, you have to remove the switches.

if you have pcb mounted switches, you can just take the keycaps off and open each switch and change the stem.

Will work for electronic components and parts

Here is a guide to switching the switches.

This video is about the ergo clear mod but it has the same process as switching out any other switches. It takes a lot of time and tools. It is your decision though for you to decide weather it is worth your time switching them or just buying a new keyboard.

Current Keyboards: Ergodox w/ clears, Poker 2 w/ clears, Ducky G2 Pro w/ Blues
