Hey

Upon further research I found that my CPU is bottle-necking my GPU quite badly and as a result, i'm going to upgrade.

My budget is tight hence this post asking for ideas.

I was thinking of getting a H81M along with an i3 4160 (maybe i5 4460).

They're nothing special but they at least won't bottleneck my 760.

Or I could possibly stick with what I have and wait for the new AMD CPU's as they may support FM2+.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

I have a 4160 myself with a card thats similarly powered to yours( 270x)

Infact i picked it up because if you OC ir heavily you can get 760 performance for cheap.

Anyways i gained 20 fps in some games after switching from my phenom to my i3,

Don't get H81, it doesn't support USB3. Save up some more and get H87 or even Z97.

i3 won't bottleneck a 760, and unless you're good at overclocking and willing to take the gamble of silicon lottery then i3 is a better option then AMD

I've owned multiple H81 boards and they have had USB 3.0 ports.

Do they have headers for front USB as well? Who would need USB3 in the rear...

Who told you this

Personal experience? I've built with an H81 board, it didn't have any front USB3 headers. I have also read documentation about the 8-series chipsets, which clearly state that H81 only supports 2 USB3 ports - 2 in the rear, 0 at the front. And the H81I is just one board with a 3rd party controller - H81M-P33 has no header.

The A8 is better then the i3 when using all 4 cores but in lightly threaded games such as MMOs i3 is way better.

However @Pearsonia since you already have FM2+ mobo I would wait to see how good 960K is first

Thing is most benchmarks prove that even using all 4 cores/threads the i3 manages to win against most of the AMD lineup.

3rd party controllers on all of them. Etron on the ASRock, VIA on the Gigabyte, Renesas on the MSI.

That's still not a reason to not get an H81 board.... they do have USB 3 headers, so don't bring up controllers to make yourself right because that's just a useless argument from your side.

Does H81 have USB3? Yes

Are there H81 with USB3 header? Yes

^These are what is important to the end user. Not whether or not it's through a 3rd party controller, Win8 supports them natively and it is not hard to install drivers for one USB3 controller in Win7

Of course minimum frame rates are going to be worse with AMD. The long story short though is that for a definite upgrade OP will want to get an i5.

And your point is? They're still H81 boards. You never said chipset in your first post. And since the board/integrated controller offers it, then H81 is still a decent way to go.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

Thats why i had a test with just the minimum fps and one with the minimum and average.

Yes metro last ligh the FX cpus snuff out the i3 9/10 times.

Second thing in that second benchmark you have an old i3.

I don't see why a wall of benchmarks was needed but okay? I never said it was going to be a downgrade

Just one question.

Do we know roughly when AMD 860k (800 lineup) will be released for FM2+?

If you say so.

We have the burden of proof , i at least don't make blank statements without proving them in some way.
