BF4 Low GPU Usage

Hey

So I was curious about just how badly my CPU bottlenecks my GPU, and ran a test through Log Files.

In BF4 I was shocked to see that my GPU usage is around 60-75% despite me not really noticing stuttering. (64 player games tend to cause frame dips)

In Bioshock Infinite the GPU usage is between 97-99% with a few dips for a second to the 70% range.

In Far Cry 3 the GPU usage is between 98% and 99% with some dips to 60%-75% usage lasting several seconds.

CPU: AMD A8 7600 @3.8Ghz

GPU: GTX 760 TF OC 2GB

Any thoughts?

Seems about spot on, some games will be worse than others with a slower CPU. ie: World of Tanks uses 1-2CPU's MAX, so it will play like shit, yet games like Bioshock use not much more, but get way better GPU usage...

As long as you have playable framerates it's not so bad, not ideal that your not always getting the most out of your GPU 100% of the time...

It's fine. Lower GPU usage is good, which means the application is not well enough optimized to use all of the performance that your GTX 760 has to offer.

Lower GPU usage is NOT good if YOU didn't limit it to do so...

GPU Auto-Declocking by not needing the power is one thing, CPU limiting GPU's are another problem altogether , and easily mistaken for eachother...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

it doesn't necessarily point towards a cpu bottleneck, while amds performance isn't often that great compared to Intel.

some games are just more demanding on cpu and others gpu.

if your gpu is only using 60% and you're getting 60+ fps at your given settings the it's just because the game isn't as demanding on your card as you think it is.

No its not. You want 99% gpu usage in games

Low gpu usage = cpu bottleneck

Lets assume it isn't a bottleneck, what would explain dips in usage?

Battlefield, for example, every time you die and end up on the loadout menu your card won't need to work as hard to push the same/greater framerate. The same goes for Far Cry3, every time you are in the shop menu. Bioshock has very few places like this aside from, again, the shop screens.

Now, this may explain dips in usage, but if you are experiencing a 60-75% usage constant in BF4, then yes you may have a bottleneck.
