I don't think so, used paper for a long time and there was nothing wrong either :D

so I need to replace my old one I have seen videos that most people who game alot use soft mat + hard mat on top. what is the deal and where do I find these? ( I play FPS games alot if this does matter)

Hard mats are easier to clean

Paper? I thought mice didn't like white surfaces. Or is that just lazer mice? :P

 

I use a razor goliathus, its fabric, i find mice really glide quite nicely over them. `Very enjoyable :)

I use an ASUS Strix mat, that one has quite a bit more grip
